Bushwick Apartment Roundup 8/20/08

$1995 — 3br: This is really nice, very well done renovation, everything new but classic. The bathroom sink is a little over the top but it’s better than being under it. Bright apartment with a back yard — and a dishwasher in the kitchen. Enough said.
PETS OK | Wilson and Decatur | street view | Wilson L

$1550 — 2br: This has two full bathrooms, a rarity in these parts. Nice renovation, wood floors, some original details, and a pretty good location.
PETS OK | Stanhope and Wilson | street view | Wilson L

$975-1400 — 1-3br: This must be stabilized at these rents. Acceptably renovated, nothing special or too crappy, wood floors — and from the ad, a no-nonsense landlord. Area is not terribly convenient but good for the price.

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 7/30/08: Troutman!

This week we’re focusing on Troutman Street, once the center of Bushwick’s crack trade, now it’s latest snazzy condo row and the residential and cultural backbone of the new Bushwick. In between all that is hundreds of units of rentals in various states of renovation. I picked out the best among what is available right now on Troutman:

$1650 — 2br: For a change, a kitchen that is not that lame, honey-colored country-looking Home Depot line, in a moderately-priced apartment. A proud old row of buildings in a great location close to everything cool. Don’t get me wrong, you can still buy a rock downstairs, but everyone minds their own business.
PETS OK | Troutman and Irving | street view | Jefferson L

$1600 — 2br: This place is solid, if not fashionable. It does have nice old floors, the bathroom is newish, the kitchen, *sigh*, those HD cabinets I mentioned above. But it’s clean-looking, still in a great location, and has a backyard you are encouraged to spiff up and use.

Bushwick Apt Roundup 7/23/08: Cheapo Week

This week, I picked out the cheapest apartments I could find, to show you it’s possible to live by yourself in Bushwick without being rich, or even fully employed. For those of you in the market for something bigger and nicer and more convenient, make sure to check out the beautiful three-bedroom in the Stockholm Street Historic District!

$1200 — 1br+alcove: Not bad, this little apartment with wood floors, cool archways, and a separate alcove you could rent out if you were enterprising and a little sleazy. Otherwise, it’s a way to have an office that’s not on your coffee table. Rent includes utilities! This is a steal.
PETS OK | Harman and Central | street view | Central M/Kosciuszko J

$800 — studio: Nothing at all spectacular, the location is meh, but it’s the cheapest thing you will find in Bushwick that is not a room in someone else’s apartment and looks decent enough to live in. It even has an eat-in kitchen.
Greene and Evergreen | street view | Kosciuszko J

$975 — studio: More cheapness on beautiful St. Nicholas. One block to the train, our new wine shop, and the best espresso this side of Arthur Avenue. Old wood floors, lots of light, good storage, new and basic kitchen and bath.

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 7/16/08

$2000 — 3br: Here’s your chance to live on one of the best blocks in “Greater Bushwick” — a beautiful, bow-front apartment full of original details and modern amenities where they count. New kitchen and bath fit right in with old moldings. There’s even a crystal chandelier. Check it out!

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 7/9/08

$1350 — 2br rr: Wow. This place is choked with charm — moldings, old floors, clawfoot tub, original violet bathroom tile, French doors. Convenient to transportation, basic shopping and food. Considering the price, too, this place is awesome all around.
CATS OK | Gates and St. Nicholas | street view | Myrtle-Wyckoff LM

$1450 — 2br: Lots of funky details in this apartment in the pretty Irving-Putnam-Halsey area south of Myrtle — look at that archway! Parquet floors, bay-front windows, large kitchen, and cheap. Could use some fresh paint but is otherwise adorable.
Jefferson and Irving | street view | Halsey L

$1250 — 2br: Nothing special but decent enough and cheap, in a solid-looking building. It’s at the end of Bushwick but only one block up an attractive street from the Wilson L. Hint: the locals call it mow-fat, not moffit.

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 7/2/08

$1848 — 2br loft: Is McKibbin growing up? I normally would ignore this building but come on, that apartment is fabulous. And how many buildings have yoga, karate, a cafe, and a speakeasy in them?
PETS OK | McKibbin and White | Morgan/Montrose L

$1250 — 2br: A rowdy, central block of Bushwick, overlooking our awesome María Hernández Park. Close to everything great in Bushwick, period. Cheap as hell and probably stabilized. Jump on it.
Starr and Irving | street view | Jefferson L

$1450 — 2br: Looks like a high floor apartment in what I think is that blonde brick buildings on top of Alfie’s Deli, which probably means a real, original two-bedroom, not a railroad. Needs a paint job, but it’s close to the train and cheap.

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 6/25/08

$2050 — 1br: Ah, one man’s disaster can be another’s dream: The L Lofts, for whatever reason, seem not to be selling. So now they’re looking to rent them out at a hefty rate — but these places are pristine, immaculate, perfect. And huge. I can’t tell if the roof deck is private or public, or what floor this is on. The train is essentially in the basement on this building, so it’s quite convenient — not to mention the wine store a block away.
SMALL PETS OK | DeKalb and Wyckoff | street view | DeKalb L

$1350 — 2br rr: Nice, non-hideous renovation job here — the place looks huge and bright. It’s across from the handball courts so the view is… entertaining, for some. But don’t worry, it’s “safe.”
Troutman and Wilson | street view | Morgan L/Myrtle JMZ

$1200 — 2br rr: A few sweet details brighten up an otherwise boringly standard apartment. Nice arch, cool bay-front windows, okay laminate floors. Close to everything and cheap!
PETS OK | George and Wilson | street view | Morgan L

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 6/18/08

$1400 — loft: Really? A big, bright loft in a great old commercial building with views for $1400? What’s the catch? Make sure you have the roof access bit in your LEASE, so they can’t lock it on you later.
PETS OK | Myrtle and Himrod | street view | Knickerbocker M/DeKalb L

$1100 — 2br rr: This is cheap even for a railroad, and at a great location near the park and Peruvian. This would be a major coup, considering the prices people are paying to live in Bushwick these days, and this is in a central location on an attractive block.
Stanhope and Irving | street view | DeKalb L

$1275 — 1br: Pretty good apartment across from Wyckoff Hospital and right on the L station. The ad makes it seem like you have to run for your life to the train, though. Get a grip — this is right near our new wine store!
Stanhope and Wyckoff | street view | DeKalb L

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 6/11/08

Google has finally Street Viewed Bushwick — so now you can check out the area before you even make your appointment!

$1295 — 2br rr: Great price for a railroad right by the park — prime Bushwick! Wood floors, decorative fireplace, exposed brick, good shape all around.
PETS OK | Willoughby and Knickerbocker | street view | Jefferson L

$1650 — 2br: I have been in these apartments, and they are NICE! Nicely renovated, nothing lame or cheesy, close to everything.
PETS OK | Central and Melrose | street view | Morgan L

$1850 — 3br: I’m a sucker for details, and this one has them in abundance. Not sure what to make of that bathroom, but this place looks great otherwise. BTW, “Knickerbocker Park” is old-school for María Hernández Park, which was only renamed in 1989.
PETS OK | Hart and Knickerbocker | street view | DeKalb L/Central M

Bushwick Apartment Roundup 6/4/08

$1350 — 2br rr: In any other location, this apartment might not even make the list. But overlooking Hernández Park on what seems to be a high floor? Awesome. Stellar location a few-minute walk to everything great in Bushwick, and passably renovated. Jump on it.
