Business Map Updated With New Stuff!

We’ve just added several new businesses to the Bushwick Business Map!

Included in the update are established businesses we have just gotten around to reviewing like George’s Restaurant, Tacos El Poblano, and Tina’s diner. We added newly opened places like The Wick bar down on Broadway and Putnam and Cafe Orwell, which snuck up on us out of the blue on Varet. We have also included soon-to-open business like Tandem bar, Chew and Chat CafĂ©, Big Tree Bottles wine shop, CakeWalk vegan bakery, and the Olive Valley falafel joint.

We’re aware there are more things to add. We’re on it, and as ever, please recommend notable businesses for inclusion on the Bushwick Business Map forum thread.

Call for Artists: Bushwick, A Viewing

The developer of new Bushwick condominium 38 Wilson is looking for local artists to participate in a gallery exhibition in the model unit. The gallery will be open regular hours and for apartment viewings and open houses, and will be staffed by participants. Artists can sell their work and keep 100% of the profits.

Contributors Wanted!

We’re looking to expand our coverage of the neighborhood, and would like to take several new writers on board. We’re especially interested in people willing to contribute regular features to the blog — fashion, architecture, history, food, art, reviews, anything you have an interest in or knack for and are willing to do at regular intervals, whether weekly or monthly. Regular neighborhood observations are encouraged. All authors have profiles which contain a short bio and contact info, and your byline will contain a link to your website, if applicable.

Writers are sought in all parts of Bushwick as well as Ridgewood and much of East Williamsburg (Montrose area).

——————————-

Those looking to get paid:

For stellar and regular (at least twice a week) writers, a small monthly fee may be available, after you prove your value. There is a very limited budget and you may be able to get some of it. You must have professional skills and need little editing, and come up with your own stories and subjects.

——————————-

If you just want to submit the odd or even one-time blurb, feel free! All posts must be accompanied by a photo!

Contact info@bushwickbk.com for more info and write@bushwickbk.com to submit writing and talk about contributing. You MUST write reasonably well.

Pardon Our Laziness; Susan on Stockholm

I’m in Orlando visiting my boyfriend’s family, so updating will be late and sparse for the next few days. Anna’s weekend picks should be coming at you some time this late afternoon, but for now I’ll leave you with a fluff post: a tipster spotted Susan Sarandon on Stockholm Street this week. That…that’s it. Later.

Get Your Photo in the Header!

The main header randomly serves three different photos on the right side (fading out behind the site logo). We’re looking to raise that number to about 10, for variety. We’re looking for photos that define Bushwick in a positive way — a pretty street, men playing dominoes, people shopping at a fruit stand, even an artful flat fix shop. It has to be conducive to being sliced horizontally to fit the header, so make sure to compose your photos accordingly. Please send your submissions for inclusion to write@bushwickbk.com. Links to photos or attachments are fine.

Introducing: Ear to the Street

You might have noticed the new module at the bottom of the “latest” column — that’s Ear to the Street, a database of quotes overheard in Bushwick. You know you have heard the most ridiculous hipster say the most idiotic thing. You’ve seen mothers use “fuck” 5 different ways in one sentence directed at their 5-year-old kids. Anything funny, crazy, stupid, silly, or ironic that you’ve heard in the hood, you can add to the database and it will be randomly served to the field below right.

Have fun!

Add to Ear to the Street here, or by clicking the header above the quotes.
