Quit school to paint like Picasso. After leaving Bushwick High after just a half semester, Andre Serrano went on to become a highly acclaimed and controversial photographer. Black Book asks him about his major turning points.
GBM and DGF (damn good films). A colorful review of one of Bushwick’s most colorful locales from Block Magazine, and a “how-to” look at the Bushwick Film Festival. (scroll down)
Bushwick: “one of the neighborhoods that hasn’t been hit by rapidly spreading gentrification.” Capcom, the video game company behind Street Fighter, took over good ole (still shut down?) Bodega on Broadway for an event promoting their latest version of the game. They had some reservations though about the neighborhood’s safety and cleanliness.
Overlooking Onderdonk. The boroughs are battling over which is home to the oldest house. Queens claims the Bowne House, Brooklyn claims the Wyckoff Farmhouse. What about the Onderdonk House which sits right on the border of Bushwick and Ridgewood? The original house was built in 1660, and it is the oldest Dutch Colonial stone house in New York City.

So are we hit with slowly spreading gentrification? Also — few? Have they BEEN to New York? This city is full of totally ungentrified neighborhoods.
