Quinn: Appeal Itself Breaks Tenant Law

The very “independent” tenants of 64 Troutman are suing their landlord under the new Tenant Protection Act which forbids the kind of harassment the tenants claim they are suffering in order to get them to move out of their regulated apartments. This includes storing a bag of dead cats in the building in order to stink it up.
A group of landlords is appealing the law, claiming that “there are already 10 laws on the books,” to deal with this kind of behavior and it will “encourage people to make frivolous claims.”
In a quote seemingly only reported by this short blurb article on 1010WINS, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says something rather alarming from the point of view of, oh, the tradition of the rule of law:
“They should drop this lawsuit and stop additionally harassing tenants by threatening the future of this law,” Quinn said.
In other words, the corrupt Quinn considers appealing the law to be in violation of the law. This is far a more interesting than a bag of roadkill, no? (If you just want more cat stories, Curbed can scratch that itch for you.)

Hey hey hey - I consider it my right as an American to leave dead cats laying around my real estate.

Quinn has already proven her penchant for the corrupt. DIsdain for “rule of law” would benothing new for her. No matter what you think of this law (it mgiht be better than the ones already on the books) it is not “harassment” to appeal it.

Yeah but it sure does costs alot of money to appeal with no chance of reimbursement.

There are typically three parts of most nation-states:
- government
- business
- black market / gangsters
It’s interesting watching them try to regulate one another. I say fuck the government. But I’m an anarchist.

What “laws already on the books”? Our landlord placed a mentally ill man in a room next door at our building. For almost an entire YEAR This man “lived” in the room urinating and defecating on the floor and leaving sh*t all over the shared bathroom. HPD inspectors were called again and again and nothing was ever done. Management would clean and disinfect the room whenever they knew an inspector was coming. Finally the urine seeped through the floor into the ceiling of the room below and the “tenant” was removed. Ultimately he was deported for violating parole.
Tenants need stronger protection. If you want “corrupt” check out Bloomberg. Between him Guiliani and Bernie Kerik we haven’t had such a corrupt City Hall in decades.
