Bushwick’s Happy Dog Headquarters

Miriah and Erik with cat Molly and clients’ dogs (L to R) Lawyer, Trixie , and Lucy.
I met with Miriah and Erik of Happy Dog Walking Company last week to talk to them about their business. With clients all over Manhattan and now Brooklyn, they are quickly expanding their Bushwick-based company’s reach. In addition to their dog walking services, they also provide doggy daycare in their beautiful apartment on Melrose complete with a huge back yard suitable for all kinds of dog activities from romping and wrestling to naps in the sun.
Tell me a bit about your company: Happy Dog Walking Company was created with the purpose of not just assisting pet owners in the overwhelming metropolis, but also involving them more in their best buds’ daily adventures. We felt that owners should be able to tailor walks/services to their individual pets’ needs. Dogs get their own personal journal and walkers provide a much more detailed description of your pet’s antics while you’re away. We love feedback and are happy to accommodate the oddest requests!
When all of this started last January, we knew Brooklyn was a matter of time. The minute Erik and I felt Happy Dog was well supported in Manhattan we jumped to open up shop in Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and so on. I grew up in Bensonhurst so I know how hard it is to get a good pet service in the outer boroughs. We would hire the neighborhood kid and even he wouldn’t show up sometimes!
When/why did you move to Bushwick?: The decision to relocate to Bushwick came quite easy to all of us. Erik moved in June of 2006 and I moved in that July. We were looking for big space, cheap rent, and a pretty active neighborhood.
What is your favorite thing about living in Bushwick?: We turned our yard into an animal haven and mini-farm, so I never want to leave. I can’t think of anything else I need here (especially now that they opened Thai on Knickerbocker)! I’m simple. I like a good cup of coffee (The Archive), my laundromat to be across the street, and a bar with some live music (we have a lot of those!).
If you need dog walking services, call Happy Dog and mention BushwickBK.com to get a free trial 30-minute dog walk!

Thumbs up for dog walkers…
Dog walkers and dogs are the most reliable and inexpensive security resource in society. With their daily presence in our parks and on our nature trails, they are the eyes and ears of the community, frequently the first to discover crime and consistently a deterrent to it.

Happy Dog rocks! My mom uses there services.. her dogs are happier and healthier. Best of all, they are relaxed and don’t bark constantly anymore. Sweeeet.
