Contributors Wanted!
We’re looking to expand our coverage of the neighborhood, and would like to take several new writers on board. We’re especially interested in people willing to contribute regular features to the blog — fashion, architecture, history, food, art, reviews, anything you have an interest in or knack for and are willing to do at regular intervals, whether weekly or monthly. Regular neighborhood observations are encouraged. All authors have profiles which contain a short bio and contact info, and your byline will contain a link to your website, if applicable.
Writers are sought in all parts of Bushwick as well as Ridgewood and much of East Williamsburg (Montrose area).
For stellar and regular (at least twice a week) writers, a small monthly fee may be available, after you prove your value. There is a very limited budget and you may be able to get some of it for your time and trouble. You must have professional skills and need little editing, and come up with your own stories and subjects.
If you just want to submit the odd or even one-time blurb, feel free! All posts must be accompanied by a photo!
Contact info@bushwickbk.com for more info and write@bushwickbk.com to submit writing and talk about contributing. You MUST write reasonably well.

I just wanted to contribute some memories of when I was growing up in Bushwick. I lived on Eldert Street, between Central and Evergreen. We rented there until I was 14 and my Parents bought a house in East Meadow, Long Island. For years I dearly missed Brooklyn. I couldn’t stand the “quiet” at night in East Meadow, no teen-agers at the school across the street from our house singing us to sleep, acapella, on steamy summer nights…no sounds of the “el” on Broadway, racing by every few minutes…no car motors or horns as people raced to get home for the night! I missed Cypress Pool, taking the el at East New York to visit my Cousin or to go to Rockaway Beach and Playland, no more library at Saratoga Avenue, the Toy Mart (before Toys R Us existed!) on Broadway by Koskiusko, my dentist on Palmetto Street, my school (14 Holy Martyrs) on Covert St… To this day, I remember it with great love. I’ve been told it has changed so dramatically that I wouldn’t even want to be there now, but in my heart it has remained the same. I did drive by about 10 years ago with my Son, and my house had been torn down, my school was still standing but no longer a school, etc … I’m still always proud to say I came from the Bushwick section of Brooklyn! I miss it to this day. If I ever win the lottery, I think I will either move back to a brownstone like the one I grew up in (3rd floor)or build a house exactly like the apartment we lived in!I still hate Nassau County and STILL LOVE BUSHWICK!!! Cheryl I.

If only I could.

Very nice reflection Cheryl. I would hope that the Bushwick of today is still a place where you would want to live (if u get that lottery money!), as so many of us appreciate all it has to offer!
