BOS Retro: Cut a Hit Record with Pass Kontrol

Local band Pass Kontrol opened the doors of the Smooth Tony D Studios on Saturday and offered to make any visitor a certified hit maker. This is the way it worked:

1. Visitors could choose from one of three instrumental Pass Kontrol tracks to back their improvised singing, playing, clapping, stomping, screaming, and so forth.
2. Practice a few times if necessary, live with the band, or solo on the i pod.
3. Sign a “professional contract.”
4. Step up to the microphone, Korg Vocoder, Keyboard, and/or tambourine, press “record,” cut a hit, and leave with a CD of their song!

What we heard: Screaming rock vocals, classical violin, odes to new bicycles, improvised duets, noise rock, and sultry blues harmonica from a talented neighbor (above video). It was a truly collaborative experience.

this is the screaming rock vocals guy we didn’t get video of, but he posted pics of his session and the mp3 of his song to livejournal.
