LA-Style Mexican and Falafel for Bogart

From a tipster: the two storefronts in the new retail spots on Bogart will be an LA-style Mexican restaurant and a falafel joint owned by the same guys as Oasis on North 7th and Bedford in Williamsburg. I’m thoroughly unexcited by the prospect of a Mexican place and only lukewarm about falafel, though as falafel goes, Oasis is the best I have had. Despite my personal tastes, with the addition of these businesses and the future CakeWalk vegan bakery, “Downtown” Morgantown is really shaping up!

dear lil’ baby jesus, please open a falafel joint nearer the J train. amen.
my unrefined palate will be bringing me down this block a lot in the future.

I can’t stand Oasis…that’s not real falafel (do I sound disgruntled or what).

That’s probably why I like it. Honestly, I could eat a sandwich just of all those pickled veggies they put on it. Falafel optional.

Huh. I just had an Oasis falafel last night. Granted they take liberties with the pickled red cabbage, etc. but it’s a damn good falafel ball. You want a truly killer falafel? Go to Moeshes food cart on 6th and 46th I believe. That is by far the best I’ve ever had. EvUr. Regardless, a welcome addition. The ‘LA style’ mexican? Not so much excitement from me. Uhhh, could I have some other ingredients in that burrito other than rice?? Thanks. I’ll stick with the tacos from the Tortilla factory on Starr.

Mexican! I’m gonna give it a try, but a good burrito is what I miss the most about San Francisco, and it seems no one in New York can get it right. Probably because it’s a San Francisco thing and not a Mexican thing.

what the world needs now, more than anything ever, is a cure for aids, an end to hunger, stopping malaria, destroying the republican party (all of them), alternative energy sources, less children (yes that means you, breeder - you are not saving the earth - a-fucking-dopt), the end to self-absorbed bloggers (gawk that)…
AND….
middle eastern food in my hood. falafel aside, hummus, tabouleh, etc is pretty cool.

An L.A. style Mexican place sounds great to me, if it lives up to the name. Haven’t had really good mexican since landing on this coast.
I also love Oasis, used to work right by there and it was my go to lunch spot for months.

Dylan - perhaps you have had really real Mexican on this coast….
California Burritos, my friend, are about as Mexican as guinea pig (which is eaten in Ecuador).

Last week, Rachel Reichman, the owner of that storefronts complex, told me , officially, that she is not giving me the space !!!!
She has been holding my rent deposit check ($2,750) for 9 months !!!!, and made me believe that I am , still in the running for tha spot of the new, supposedly, upcoming Mexican restaurant !!!
As a matter of fact, Leib, her husband and partner told me about three weeks ago that nobody signed a lease yet there !!!
About 3 months ago, she mentioned that her “advisor” suggested that she would rent it for something more “suitable” for the area, and my intentions to open an art gallery dedicated to local photographers is not the right idea ????
It’s good that we have a “superior force” like her to determine what’s good for the neighborhood.
I am wondering how many more deposit checks she was holding, that made the renovations possible.
More than that,
When I asked her three months ago, if it’s a matter of money; if someone else offered her more, or whether I should wear a my Armani suit when I come to meet with her, she told me that her decision was made on “what’s good for the neighborhood”
We did have 3 meetings , and discussed the layout of the place, and I mentioned that I don’t want the trees to be cut !
I should have listened to two other people from the neighborhood when they told me not to trust the owners !
It’s up to them to decide who’s the renter of their property, but to hold my check (still) for 9 months ?!?! That’s outrageous !

Rafael, sorry to hear that, that really sucks. Was she holding your deposit that whole time without a signed lease?
Dresden, I’m just seeing this now, and think that the food I had when I lived in Baja probably counts as “real” Mexican, but notice I didn’t say that I was looking for authentic Mexican food. I could care less if the food I eat is authentic to some particular region…all I want is for it to be tasty and fresh, not taste like it has been in the back of a truck for a couple of weeks.
