Bushwick Wine Shop Opening in May?
Last year there were rumors of a wine shop opening on Wyckoff, but there have been no updates since September. Now it seems that yes, a wine shop called Vinos en Wyckoff will be opening possibly in May. I can’t say whether the name reflects the expected client base or if it means they will have Spanish wines — both would be refreshing. A contact peeked inside and says “it looks more like a bar.” We’ll have to wait and see.
Nice storefront, too — I like the iron columns. What, no huge plastic multi-colored umbrella awning?
UPDATE: The owner says “Vinos en Wyckoff will be open probably in June. We will have also liquors, but we want to educate people in the area about wine. We will carry affordable high quality wines. We have a big yard and we will offering free wine tasting and classes.”

All I drink is Spanish wine, pretty much, so I’d be thrilled if this was a super niche wine shop — but it’s unlikely.

As long as it’s not one of those shops that have the double plexi-glass (or whatever that see-thru barrier is) between me and the bottles I’d probably be pleased. But while we’re fantasizing, don’t we need a specialty cheese shop that samples and holds weekly tastings?

I can’t believe the bulletproof glass place on Wyckoff around Grove does not take credit cards. It’s like 1962 there. Sure, they’d have to pay an interchange fee but they could have a $20 minimum for credit cards. They’d do so much more business. And maybe the average sale would be $30 or $40 instead of $4. Wake up!

Checked back today and the awning is up and it says Wines and Liquors - so I guess were looking at a wine store. Sounds pretty good to me.

It’s open! I went by today, and the place was open for business. No Plexiglass. Not a huge selection, but what’s there is pretty good. Not a heck of a lot cheaper than Manhattan, though…

Went in there Tuesday and bought a bunch of stuff to welcome them to the neighborhood. It’s a normal liquor store with a lot of $11 wines. Very pretty decor. I’m really happy it’s not cash only. Though I might go back to the other place once in a while for the $6 Pinot Grigio, which is good.

Spoke to the owner and he is going to make the back area an outdoor spot for tastings and he’s trying to buy the place next door to open a tapas bar. Nice local guy trying to turn the neighborhood around, he told me the community board wants no more plexi and others to emulate what he’s doing.
