Paul Rome Makes Reading Fun

I could not miss Paul Rome’s reading of his upcoming novel on Friday 3/14 at Space Space in Ridgewood.

The reading was really a theatrical event — Paul set a stage of sorts with a few set pieces, projections of key imagery (on SS’s HUGE screen) and musical accompaniment by Stevie Brock, Adam Brown, and Mark Lacsamana. Sam Tillman manned the projections and included some of his own animations during three musical interludes. (Side note: all the key players are current or former employees of my all-time favorite coffee shop — Wyckoff Starr*). A true Renaissance man, Paul jumped in with the “band” on keyboard during breaks and they also screened a movie by Paul and Sam.

Space Space was the perfect venue — it’s a true artists’ collective. The members/residents (including “Multimedia art team and sculpture band” Eagle Ager) carefully curate performances and provide a much-needed environment for emerging work. They have hosted a lot of really fantastic, cutting-edge performances in their two years’ worth of shows and we’ll keep an eye out for upcoming performances.

*Incidentally & off-topic: the W-S coffee is damn good.
