End the Occupation!…of Troutman Street
Before the facade was on this condo-to-be at Troutman and Wilson, a friend of mine who is acquainted with the developer assured me he was a “nice Israeli guy who builds quality stuff.” When the facade went on, I said, “uh, your buddy’s idea of quality is something reminiscent of a West Bank settlement.”
I’d like to see a Right of Return for this — back to an empty lot. Yuck.

I’ll play devils advocate: Would you rather see an empty lot? Or more vinyl sided crap like the one next door? I give you that this is not great architecture but in our aethetically challenged neighborhood, I say this is not bad for new construction.

Color me a Luddite, but I’d rather see the neighborhood go back to it’s agrarian roots. I say turn every empty lot into farmland! Clean up Newton Creek, re-establish the old Indian trail down Flushing Avenue and encourage Dutch immigration! Long live BOSWICK!!!

I take that back. I just looked at it again… if they put a decent front door on the place, it won’t be so bad at all in context of what’s around it.

My point here is, this is not good architecture. If it were a rental building, well, it’s still ugly but I wouldn’t question its viability. If it were a two-family house for sale, again, no big deal: far uglier things have certainly sold in Bushwick. But who in the market for a 300K condo (I’m guessing on that price) would ever, ever look at this abortion and say “ooh, that’s nice!”? It seems to me that less-than-desirable locations should be wowing with above-average design. This is shit.

It looks like they squeezed in an extra floor, therefore the horizontal windows and low ceilings. Ugh!

the door is for sure only tempary. Any of you who think they would like to stay in Bushwick for the long term and watch the neighborhood improve before your very eyes should contact each and every elected person available, and tell them no more affordable housing in Bushwick. Many Manhatten neighborhhods are doing this with super success. The people in these affordable buildings are mostly disfunctional and will only hold Bushwick and your quality of life down.
