Bushwick Clicks 1/11/08

Roberta’s is PACKED: from jwh3000’s flickr album
Bushwick Frontin’: James Kennedy did a cute little photo and video essay on the storefronts of the Morgantown area.
New York’s Art Central: Mike Lavers interviews long-time Bushwick artists like super-cool Kim Holleman and Hrag Vartanian about how the neighborhood has changed for artists in the last few years.
Crap on Your Own Turf: Doesn’t “Miss Heather” have any more dogshit to photograph and rant about in her own hood, or is it now far too gentrified for that sort of thing? I mean, I think she’s hyperventilating. For not just one but two back-to-back posts.
We Don’t Want Him: SF Weekly responds to the news of hipster douchbag Rent wannabe Adam Fisher moving back to his home city: “[In] San Francisco…a crime wave is underway and the murder rate has climbed to its highest in a decade.” SF is still a lovely city, but if you think NYC has crazy housing laws…take a walk around the Tenderloin. It’s like if someone put East New York next to Carnegie Hill!
More Bushwick Wannabes: The media is now backing up Bed-Stuy landlords cashing in on the Bushwick label: this fire at 2148 Fulton Street was a good two long blocks inside our neighboring hood, but it’s listed in every caption and in the story as Bushwick.

It’s interesting that I saw much more crime (open drug use/dealing, prostitution) when I stayed in the Tenderloin for a week than I do in Bushwick.

SF is a drug-infested, disgusting dump with a mayor who’s too busy fucking his friends’ women and drying out from his alcoholic tendencies. If that douchebag thinks Bushwick is bad - he should roll through the Tenderloin and Mission - and then go visit Oakland.
Disturbing that the NY Mag ran that. Really fucked up.

the fire thing is so weird, i can think of several other neighborhoods you could call it before bushwick: ocean hill, brownsville, east new york, even “broadway junction area” but bushwick? everybody knows fulton street doesn’t go to bushwick! are they trying to play up our history of fire damage?
