Fotos: Robin Hood on Stanhope/Wyckoff

We walked past this row of buildings with two faces in the lintels: one that looks like Robin Hood and another that looks like a Victorian lady. I’m sure there’s some historical cultural context that would make this make sense.

Well it’s not actually Robin Hood, but it was an extremely popular form of decoration among builders and stone masons who were from Germany or Italy from roughly 1890-1920. The faces that you see on many of these buildings represent Nordic Mythology, the signs of the zodiac, mythical gods, and wagnerian opera themes

what’s up lintels on the edge of the building?? they look like they’re sitting in the middle of nowhere…
