Using Mothra as an adjective to describe giant sounds has always been an effective trick, and the horns from the Godzilla vs Mothra theme prove that fittingly. Brooklyn’s Pharoahe Monch first sampled them back in ’99 for “Simon Says“, and since then they’ve also carried a familiar reference to the borough throughout the various following tracks to sample it. So it’s doubly effective as a juke sample by a New York producer, in that it’s hype inducing and acts as a bridge to introduce a style still unfamiliar to many here. Messkid‘s “ゴジラ (Godzilla)” track is also slowed down a bit from the genre’s breakneck pace. And while the chopped melody is certainly monster-sized, the drums are slightly subtle, making them less overwhelming. In fact it actually sounds a lot like some Jersey Club. But it’s still got that steady bounce of bassy kicks that work so well in the club and constant beat switches that make it engaging. It’s also a free download.

Messkid will be one of the guests at Full Service tonight. The party will also feature Jersey’s ballroom master Mike Q, Fools Gold record’s Party Supplies, and the Knifeshow duo of Wreck Tech and Jack Inslee as always. Did you download Inslee’s juke house edit of “Marvin’s Room” like we recommended last week? Definitely do that.
