For the sixth year in a row, neighborhood organizers Make the Road NY’s all-local pride parade marched down a sunny Knickerbocker Avenue. This past Saturday afternoon, around 100 people — queer-identified immigrants and their supporters and family — turned out for the event, though there weren’t many spectators.
The event seems more important in recent years, after the beating death of Ecuadoran immigrant José Sucuzhañay, attacked because he was thought to be gay. Make the Road’s own Ana Maria Archila was recently profiled in a Times story on gay marriage.
BushwickBK’s Devvon Simpson was out there with the revelers. Click the photo at right to see the full 28-photo slideshow.

your culture link button is not working and this post can only be entered through the bottom culture link button. as an aside it is unfortunate that this event was not publicised very well. had i had forehand knowledge i would have invited the hundreds of lgbt friends that i have and they would have gladly came to the event.
but at the end of the day bushwick and globe works wonders…happy pride…

I had no idea about this– and I live on Knickerbocker. I’m hoping next year’s Pridefest is more publicized; I would’ve loved to be in attendance.
