Of all the nouveau shoegaze bands that have crept up in the last few years, you won’t find a more convincing or enjoyable pastiche than Ringo Deathstarr. They may do My Bloody Valentine better than the Valetines do, picking up from their jangly Ecstacy and Wine era and moving to full on effects pedal assaults. They’ve even captured the same ’90s production values. Ringo Deathstarr play with textures and rhythms, at times allowing the guitars to define the shape of songs, at others letting the instruments to ring out in crashes of harmonious (and sometimes harsh) noise. And like any good late-’80s/early ’90s Creation-ists, their airy voice-as-instrument vocals are smothered to the point that that lyrics are only just discernable.

Ringo Deathstarr are playing Shea Stadium on Sunday with Vandelles, Heaven, and Dead Leaf Echo. Tickets are $8. If their live performances are anything like those bands they’ve modeled their records on, you’ll want to bring ear plugs.
