The L train will be out of service this weekend between Broadway Junction and 8h Avenue, leaving the Bushwick Open Studios art festival in the lurch. To compensate, MTA is running the M train on its weekday schedule to 57th Street, with no service between 12-8am Sunday morning. For service to Williamsburg, a shuttle will run in two parts from Broadway Junction to Myrtle-Wyckoff, and from Myrtle-Wyckoff to Lorimer.
MTA is removing old wayside signals — signs along the subway tracks inside the tunnels — between Broadway Junction and Myrtle-Wyckoff. Trains can’t run at all during the process. MTA is also placing the final leg of the Communication Based Train Control (CTBC) system from 8th Avenue to 3rd Avenue.
CTBC is an automated control system which coordinates signals throughout the subways, ensuring safe operation.
