Manhattan-based vintage clothing store Metropolis is celebrating 21 years of business, and oddly enough they’re celebrating in Bushwick. The retailer is throwing two celebratory gigs, one at Don Pedro on Friday and the other at Brooklyn Fire Proof on Saturday.
Friday’s line-up is a good night for those who like thrashy guitars. Bands includes raucous garage band Fuck School, venom-spewing punks Cheesequake, the more blues inspired Amputees, the jangle pop Marvin Berry and the New Sound, and the Waldos, the side project of Lure Walters of Johnny Thunders’ band the Heartbreakers. Friday’s show is free.
Saturday’s Brooklyn Fireproof show includes members of Ex-Humans and Foster Care as The Peace-Killers and more garage rock from the Psyched. Detroit is being represented by the Johnny Ill Band (who have a wonderfully incongruous buzzy bass) as well as the spazzed out Timmy’s Organism. Saturday’s show is $10.
Metropolis Vintage also has a few in-store events to celebrate, including DJ sets, if you fancy boarding the L train to get to your weekend entertainment.
