Each week we’ll highlight a different song by a Bushwick band or artist we like. If you would like to have your band’s song considered, you can submit an MP3 here.

Jefferson High aren’t all gloomy reverb all the time, but their song “Hungry Ghosts” is. It’s got a high contrast of tones and textures, light and dark sounds, somnambulent beats and vocals against more energetic guitars.  Really, it sounds like the Jesus and Mary Chain covering the Rolling Stones’ “Let’s Spend the Night Together.” Behind the bright lead guitar is a more subtle, constant churning sound that only snags your attention in the last minute and a half when it fights its way to the front with a flail-armed slam dance.

“Hungry Ghosts” can be found on Jefferson High’s Midnight Junkie, available now for free download through American Buffalo Recordings.
