Each week we’ll highlight a different song by a Bushwick band or artist we like. If you would like to have your band’s song considered, you can submit an MP3 here.

Every once in a while we dig out weather-influenced songs, and the damp beginnings to Bird Courage‘s “StephanieStephane” perfectly evoke the rainy days inherent to April.

Simple found recording aside, Bird Courage are a mellow folk duo who rely mostly on an acoustic guitar and not much more. This particular song is a bit of downer, with some sad and some outright violent immagery, but there is something to appreciate in Erik Meier’s steady, unemotional vocals.  While there isn’t much more than an acoustic guitar, the is a similar, delicate shifting in the finger picking nicely mirrors the sliding pitch in Meier’s vocals.

You can download “StephanieStephane” and and the more upbeat B-side “Spring Song” for free through Bird Courage’s Bandcamp page.
