NEW is the word of the week (hello super functional & gorgeous BBK redesign!) around here.  We have another pizza option in town, and I’m speaking from experience when I tell you it’s delicious.  Go taste!  Not to mention a slew of inaugural calendar regulars happening this week: hip hop, storytelling, and gratuitous (ha!) libations included.  We’re all about foolery & first-times, friends, so enjoy!

Thursday

Kick off the night with some booze sampling over at Big Tree Bottles, where the choices are aplenty: rum cocktails, absinthe, and a little wine.  How nice to taste before you buy (and get that buzz goin’ early).

Freak folk trio Tall Firs, along with Spectre Folk and Devin Gary & Ross, are giving us the live music fix we need this evening – just head on over to Shea Stadium at 9 (ish! these guys are not known for punctuality).

There’s also a big party happening at Tandem, which, if you’re up for it, will carry you well into your Friday morning.

Friday

Brooklyn Fire Proof hosts Birdsong Zine’s 3-Year Anniversary Party beginning at 8pm and “featuring limited edition $20 prints made especially for the event by a group of artists who have contributed to, or been interviewed by, Birdsong over the past three years & music by Sweet Tooth Nelson + Jess Paps, Baby Alpaca, Hunter, Little Victory.”

The place to be tonight is Norte Maar!  Go help celebrate the Boys of Bushwick, an exhibition addressing the male figure as muse.  Judging by that RSVP list, and the parental warning, I’d suggest arriving on the early side.
Also, be sure to stop in for the after party at Bodega.  With DJ Scot Bowman on the bill, you know it’s gonna be a good time (plus a portion of the bar’s proceeds go towards this fab new ballet)

And over at The Loom it’s First Friday time.  Go shop (big sales!), dance (DJ Digiwitz plays!), and get drunk (complimentary beverages included).

Saturday

Vaudeville Park has an an Anomalistic Urge to share with their large-scale "tabletop sculpture" show conceived and curated by Courtney Tramposh.  Judging by the featured artists list, there’s gonna be a lot to see.

The Crowd Reading Series takes over Cafe Orwell early on tonight, with performances by the Frederico Ughi Ensemble and the Benjamin Miller/Chris Welcome duo going on after.

The Pantry Party and Silent Barn are putting on a benefit show with a full roster of bands and a 10-can admission fee, all of which will be donated to Brooklyn’s St. John’s Bread & Life.

Check out British guitar rockers WU LYF and more at Shea Stadium.

Sunday

Want to know how to solve a problem in nine minutes?  Of course you do, and you can find out at The Bodega Monthly, a brand new live storytelling series that kicks off today.  The bar will be serving 2-for-1 happy hour drink specials, so don’t be late (fun starts at 7pm).

Monday

And another new series to check out – Hip Hop Nite at the Wreck Room begins at 10pm.  Go sip cheap drinks and take a tour through hip hop’s past, present and future.

Tuesday

The ISCP Salon is back today, and features Kaspter Akhoj (Yugoslavia) and Davor Sanvincenti (Croatia).

Or go show your stuff at Goodbye Blue Monday’s Tuesday Teacup Open Mic night.

Wednesday

Drink and Draw at 3rd Ward, music at BFP, karaoke at Tandemcheck the calendar for details and more!
