Queens’ finest the Beets are playing Brooklyn Fire Proof this Saturday. The Jackson Heights natives and Bushwick regulars at the forefront of the Velvets style revival are headlining an evening of Velvets style rock.

Joining the Beets are My Teenage Stride, the Brooklyn group with a garage approach to pop of varying fidelities and assorted textures. They roll between rich, warm dream pop, complete with unidentifiable synth accents and Jesus and Mary Chain reminiscent static to stuttered, scratchy rock. Everything is tied together with subtly over-dubbed vocals that give the persistent impression of chanting.

Also on the bill are the Sanctuaries and Barcelona’s Mujeres, who have a better grasp on surf rock rhythms than any of the reverb drowning California bands out there now. Things are kicking off late; doors are at 10pm.
