Metal subgenres are a thing for pedants and pranksters, but describing Brooklyn band Syphilitic Lust as “sleaze metal” is pretty accurate. There is something intrinsically unpleasant — dirty, really — about their music. It might be the almost-classic rock chord structure. It might be the lingering feeling that their vocalist, appropriately called Inhaler, is constantly mocking you, and is really enjoying it. They aren’t going for the straight thrash effect, but something more gutteral, something that warbles a bit for the sole purpose of rattling around your brain a few seconds longer. Again, “sleaze” is definitely the right word.

Syphilitic Lust play the Acheron on Thursday with Fatal and Gang Signs. Thursday will be Syphilitic Lust’s second show with their new bassist, a fellow who calls himself Silkwood. It’s a safe bet that wild stuff is gonna happen.
