Two Ridgewood men are accused of running a multimillion-dollar heroin ring that sold on the streets of Long Island.
The Queens Chronicle reports Joel Guzman, 27, and Jeremy Guzman, 29, along with 16 others were nabbed in a 16-month-long sting operation conducted by the Suffolk County Police Narcotics Division. According to Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota, the ring sold over one million bags of heroin with an estimated street value of $11 million dollars over the course of the investigation.
Officials believe the ring purchased large quantities of raw heroin from Frank Conte, 29, of the Bronx, and packaged the product in a Corona, Queens, apartment. According to the Hampton Bays Patch, the heroin was marketed with names like “Sweet Death”, “Starbucks,” and "Kneebender," and was sold to high school students. The heroin could be tied to the overdose death of a Long Island teen.
Joel Guzman has been charged with operating as a major drug trafficker, conspiracy, and sale of a controlled substance. His bail has been remanded and he remains in custody. The other Guzman (officials do not believe them to be related) remains in custody, his bail set at $25,000.
