Each week we’ll highlight a different song by a Bushwick band or artist we like. If you would like to have your band’s song considered, you can submit an MP3 here.

No one really takes Auto-Tune seriously. It’s just not possible to have digitally-correct vocals sound like they haven’t been digitally corrected. But intentionally going for the robotic vocal effect? That’s pretty cool.

Toytrain strike a nice balance between electronic elements and more organic sounds on “Blackberry Pie.” A subtle acoustic guitar counters the more dominant synth, in the same way robotic vocals pair off with the human ones. Everything is peacefully underwritten by a low echoing chime and gently clanging percussion. Also, the lyrics are borrowed from William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, and who doesn’t love a good literary reference?

“Blackberry Pie” can be found on Allie, Don’t Let Me Disappear, which you can download in full for free on Bandcamp.
