Some songs seem to get the remix treatment from everyone, and “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa is one of those songs. Now Bushwick’s Cobra Krames and Terror Dactel have gotten their hands on it, and they’ve stuffed it with a serious diet of Creatine bass.
This is definitely a hip hop track remixed for the dubstep crowd, but for the most part the goal is to amplify the elements of the original, which was produced by the Norwegian duo Stargate. Mid-range bass wobbles make appearances here and there, but never overwhelm the vocals. The beat obviously plays a larger role in this version, but unlike a lot of brostep rap remixes, Wiz’s voice is still clear and easily heard. Those lyrics refer to the color of sports teams in Pittsburg, which is Khalifa’s hometown. (Also, in case you were wondering, the upside down Ps that everyone rocks in the video are actually Ds, and refer to the skateboard shop that made them, Diamond Supply Co..) Cobra-Dactel replace the bells with weep-woop synths that get much more hype. They make the subs much bigger, add some g-funk whines, and a touch of vocoder to the vocals. They also drop the trancey synths that make an appearance in Stargate’s version.
