Whatever mood you’re in this week, Bushwick will happily oblige (Morning Aztec Dance Ceremony included).  Lots of wonderful almost-freezing weather activities abound:  art panel discussions and openings, movie-watching parties, a new opera, and a little bondage to heat things up. Before we dig in, here’s some booze reporting for you: Kings County Distillery, NYC’s "oldest" operating whiskey distillery (the first since prohibition), is now open for sales, tastings, and tours right here in the hood! You can get some even closer to home at BushwickBK supporter Big Tree Bottles. Plus we have a new bar in town to check out — Lone Wolf — conveniently next door to live-music-every-night venue Goodbye Blue Monday (pick a show & hit ‘em both!)

Thursday

Desarrollar, a gallery exhibition and solo dance performance, opens tonight at the Center for Performance Research.  I’ll say only this: the evening’s theme revolves (at least partially) around Laura Schwamb‘s leather fabricated human bridle.  Enough said.

The premiere of Tydrus The Twit, a new opera by Zeke Virant & the Brain Rain Players, is happening tonight at The Bushwick Project for the Arts.  It’s the story of "a middle-Georgia punk’s inability to get a job and his bad trip through a dream world filled with witches and hopeless love."  Kinda sounds like my early 20′s, minus the jazz improvisations.

Friday

Feeling literary?  Head over to Vaudeville Park for Birdsong #14 Zine Release, featuring readings by The Birdsong Collective, Melissa Broder, and music by gritty folk duo PAPS.

And for the arters:

Camel Art Space opens Subliminal Space, displaying works on paper by Loie Hollowell, Marian Brunn Smith, Amy Lincoln, and Ander Mikalson, all of whom "share an interest in a meditative, introspective process, using water based media to create intimate records of the artists’ presence."

It’s a big night over at Little Skips for their Winter Art Opening Party, with three very different artists’ works to peruse, plus live music & a DJ.

Factory Fresh offers up Speedy Wonderland, a pop art explosion featuring both the collaborative & individual works of Roman Klonek and Jim Avignon.

Saturday

Learn all about the death card tonight at Sugar in Bushwick: "Rich in the color black, Ace of Spades takes you on a ride to a dark side, through stormy, yet eerily tranquil, silent landscapes."  Opening goes from 6-9 pm.

Shea Stadium has a great line-up starring the beloved (venue co-founders) the So So Glos, The Beets, & a few friends.

Or go dance it up at Beauty Bar BK, where the special holiday edition of their DirtyNerdy Dance Party is on.  Hot beats by Gordon Gartrell, DirtyFinger, and DJ C.LO (& cheap drinks!) will keep you moving all night long.

Sunday

Early risers & culture seekers: head over to Silent Barn where you’ll learn & participate in Atl-Tlachinolli, a Mexican community dance circle dedicated to the preservation of Danza de Concheros.

Then at 3pm, over at the Dekalb/Central/Myrtle intersection, the Bushwick Bazaar begins: art, crafts, local food, FREE BEER, and evening musical and comedy performances.

And now for the cinema:

3rd Ward has their monthly Moviehouse with playfully devious video and performance work by Min Oh.  Go early for a live-action, choose-your-own-adventure dining experience where Chef David Seigel will assemble your dish in real time.

The Northeast Kingdom Den is showing the Jarmusch classic Down By Law, and offering free popcorn plus $1 off all drinks!

Monday

For only $6 head over to Microscope Gallery & check out a rare screening of Linas Phillips‘ "Walking to Werner," which documents his 1200 mile walk from Seattle to the LA home of legendary director Werner Herzog.

Tuesday

ISCP hosts On Silence: the ArteEast Quarterly Journal Launch & Panel Discussion.

Wednesday

It’s Muse Fuse time again at NURTUREart, this one featuring Bill Carroll, a NY art world staple for more than 25 years, and currently the Director of the Studio Program of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.
