It definitely feels like the start of winter, and I’m grateful for sunny Bushwick skies, fabulous neighbors, hot lattes and cozy spots. Don’t forget to fall back Sunday AM at 2 and take advantage of that extra hour!
Tonight
Little Skips hosts monthly live music night featuring: Frank from Photon Dynamo and The Shiny Pieces as well as Intelligent Dancers.
STOREFRONT Gallery presents its monthly Literary Thursday in a scholarly fashion. "Four graduate students (three nonfiction writers and one social worker) will sweetly read aloud to you."
Visit Grace Exhibition Space for Live Action: New York 10: "The best in Scandinavian and North American Performance-Art featuring some of the most important and emerging contemporary Scandinavian and North American performance artists." Be sure to check out events at the space all weekend long.
Friday
Check out The Loom’s very special Zombie Fashion Show edition First Friday event at Better Than Jam and be sure to pop in to Tomahawk Salon for wine, nail art, and girls night out specials!
It’s time for ISCP‘s Fall Open Studios, "a four-day exhibition of international contemporary art presenting works by the 38 artists, collectives and curators from 26 countries currently in residence… and offering the public access to innovative contemporary art practices from around the world, seen for the first time in New York City." It rules every year. Go. The opening reception is Friday night and open hours continue through Monday.
Also on the art front, Centotto Gallery hosts an opening reception for Marksmen and the Palimpsests, an exhibit of three new bodies of visually decorticable paintings by Josh Willis and John Avelluto.
Silent Barn hosts a big line up with TechDiff, Deformer, Raxyor, Silent Killer, Digit 216 and Speak Onion.
Body Actualized Control presents Mutual Dreaming at Shea Stadium: "This is a conceptual party — lit entirely by candles, projectors and 500 glowsticks. All the bands are strictly analog." This makes me smile. Someone report back please.
Saturday
New art space! Temporary Storage Projects kicks off its programming at Brooklyn
Fireproof with After We Met, a multi-disciplinary exhibition organized
by guest curator Claudia Eve Beauchesne, and featuring works by local
and international artists. I like it. Let’s all go check it out.
Another almost brand new spot Brewer’s Mansion hosts an opening for its second show, Falsee Face. And seriously, go next door for hummus. What are you people waiting for? In fact, as long as you’re on (suddenly hot) thoroughfare Waterbury Street, why not stay for the musical stylings of Pizza High Five (awesome band name alert), Backslider, and Curandera at the Acheron.
It’s another busy weekend at Shea Stadium…. Chocolate Bobka presents: Sore Eros Know Touching Album Release party with: Double Entendre, Mountainhood, White Laces, Sultans, No Demons Here, and Animal Hospital. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we live in an era and a neighborhood of multitudes of really creative band names.
At Fort Useless: y/y, Teletextile, Bermuda Bonnie.
