The Ridgewood branch library will be closed for several weeks for the final phase of renovations. — Image from GoogleThe Queens Library system will be closing the Ridgewood branch on Nov. 3 for the final stage of a multi-part renovation of the building, which has added 3,000 square feet of public-service space.
Work began in 2005. In 2006, a new Children’s Center was added, with the old one occupied by an International Language section with materials in Albanian, Croatian, Urdu, and nine other languages. Computers were increased to 18 and patrons can now self-check out books. The main entrance was restored to the original Madison Street side from Fairview Avenue, for better accessibility, and an elevator was added for disabled access to the mezzanine.
The latest phase will finish the refurbishment of the main floor of the library, which opened in 1929. What is left of the Art Deco interiors has been preserved throughout. Mechanical systems have also been replaced in the $2.8-million renovation, funded by several local officials.
Temporary service will be provided on the lower level of the building, until completion in mid-December.
The Ridgewood branch library is located at 20-12 Madison Street at Fairview Avenue.

Very excited about it being finished… it’s been under construction for a while now. Between this and the YMCA renovation 2011 is going to be pleasant on the public-facilities front.
