Dreary weather calls for brooding music. Contradia definitely tap into moody. There’s something almost post-apocalyptic about the robot distortion they use on their vocals, particularly when paired with their post-rock jamming. Many of Contradia’s songs offer the interesting juxtoposition of acoustic guitars and the robot voice, but the progression of acoustic to tumultuous electric under the unearthly vocals on “Pink Metal” is really something special. It’s a very interesting contrast between the organic and what sounds like it shouldn’t be made by humans. Be sure to listen closely for the barely-there guitar hooks and synth lines as well.
