Detectives from the 83rd Precinct look for bullet casings underneath cars on Halsey Street last night, after two men were shot and wounded.
At least a dozen gunshots were reported via Twitter on Halsey Street near Central Avenue at about 11pm Sunday. The shooter was identified as a short black man wearing all black, and it was overheard that he broke down the door of a home and began shooting.
83rd Precinct detectives, however, told BushwickBK that the shooting occurred outside of Randy’s Deli Grocery at 545 Central Avenue, which was closed at the time. Multiple ambulances arrived on the scene to take at least two people away.
The identity of either man is not known, or if either was critically wounded. According to two Hope Gardens residents who live across the street at 580 Central Avenue, police arrived within minutes of the shooting.
One resident, who asked not to be identified, said detectives told her that they received multiple 911 calls about the shooting. "I was watching a movie and heard the gunshots and thought it was coming from the TV," said the shocked neighbor, who lives on the first floor.
Police blocked blocked traffic on Halsey Street between Wilson and Central Avenues, and where looking under cars spent bullet casings. The Hope Gardens resident said she wasn’t surprised about the shooting since she sees "men drinking by the corner and arguing" on a regular basis. Another neighbor mentioned that children were inside the house at the time of the shooting.
