More or less the entire population of Ridgewood, NJ, will be at Shea Stadium on Saturday for the Underwater Peoples Records showcase. Perhaps the biggest draw of the evening will be Ducktails, who just announced the release date for his third album this fall (and who is playing with Deerhunter at Glasslands tonight).
But many bands on Saturday night’s bill will be familiar to anyone who takes a even a casual interest in Bushwick gig listings: Julian Lynch, Big Troubles, and Fluffy Lumbers are staples in the North Brooklyn scene. Other familiar faces include the sole Brooklyn-based act for evening, Air Waves, No Demons Here, Family Portrait, and Alex Bleeker.
It’s going to be a very guitar-centric evening with lots of fuzzed out psych licks. For the uninitiated, this is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with an entire scene all at once, or to express their enthusiasm for effects pedals. And considering the increasing amount of attention the bands are getting, who knows if such a line-up can be pull together again? Doors are at 7pm, tickets are $5.
