Whether your high school prom was a magical night to remember or a horror you’d choose to forget, Shea Stadium is offering you the opportunity to relive those memories or replace them with better ones.
OK Prom is recreating that high school dance feeling on Saturday evening. The night will be divided up into two parts, starting 8.30pm with live performances and ending with the crowning of the Prom King and Queen. Local bands have been persuaded to depart from their usual set lists for the occasion. The Donner Party Picnic will be playing rockabilly, Slasher Risk are doing Motown Covers, and the Beets are playing an all Beatles set (‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ Beatles, versus ‘Revolution’ Beatles). The Prom King and Queen will be chosen by a dance-off, which is kind of awesome.
Part two of the evening kicks off around 12.45am with a set from the Pendulum Swings, as well as DJ sets from Mister Writght and Kamul.
Tickets for the evening are $20 for a pair. They are only sold as pairs, so singles can feel the same pressures as their school days. If you only want to show up for part two, it’s $5 on the door, though entry is based on how many people stick around after the Prom fun. There’s a formal dress code in place, so now’s the time to air out your party frock.
