Walking down Knickerbocker on one of the recent record-breaking heat days, I bumped into Brenndon on his way to pick up some medicine at the local pharmacy. Tonsillitis and all, this fashion writer looked put together in what he later confessed were basically pajamas.

Brenndon Knox, 23, Fashion Writer

In simple black and grey, Brenndon looks like he may have just rolled out of bed but still manages to emulate his sense of style with a few key accessories — a woven leather shoulder bag, shiny gold watch, and a derby hat resting atop a perfectly manicured frohawk all multiply his fierceness.

What do you do for a living?
Well, I’m an intern at StyledOn.com and I just got hired as a contributing writer for FashionIndie.com

What do you think your clothing says about you as an individual?
That’s interesting, I’ve never been asked that before. I have like a list of answers for these things since I’m a fashion writer, too. I guess my look says that while I keep up with trends, I put my own spin on them. I definitely incorporate my own point of view into how I interpret trends that I see going on. Like these aren’t even leggings. I just haven’t worn pants in a while, I usually wear leggings as pants. These are like pajama bottoms and they’re my favorite go-to. The fabric is weird with a bit of sheen to it.

I like how your silly bands are giving you a bit of color today.
I know right! I don’t even know why everyone has them, but my friend had some and I was like “gimme!” Plus, they accentuate my hospital band [laughs]. I have tonsillitis, it’s not scandalous, I promise.

Any trends you love in the neighborhood?
I haven’t been here long enough. I moved in with a friend in this neighborhood maybe like two weeks ago. I used to live in Park Slope. I mean, it’s alright but it’s a huge change from Park Slope but it’s fine. I think the thing about trends in New York though is that we are all basically shopping at the same stores, we’re all wearing the same things so it’s how you accessorize and put things together that matters. I think that’s what’s great — two people could be wearing the same pieces but look completely different just by distinguishing themselves.

Out of your favorite current fashion trends, what would you love to see more of in Bushwick?
Something I’d love to see more of everywhere is an emphasis on shoulders — I’m really into them for some reason. Anything I see with epaulets or detailing on the shoulders, I automatically gravitate to it. It’s the kind of thing where it might not even be cute but I still gravitate and then take the time to decide if it’s cute. It’s something that a lot of people can’t pull of but I feel like with trends you can always incorporate pieces of them to fit your needs. Like, you don’t need a full-out harem pant, you can just rock a slouchier pant — you don’t have to look like MC Hammer. It looks really good on some people, but definitely doesn’t work on everyone. I really want a pair.

What is your favorite sexy summertime look?
Tight on the bottom, and loose on the top. That’s my staple look all the time. Like I said, I wear a lot of tights with just big t-shirts. I think that’s a good look for summer for everyone.
