Pass Kontrol — “New Hope City”

You might know Pass Kontrol from their theatrical endeavor “New Hope City,” which had a run at the Bushwick Starr earlier this year. The anti-corporation play mixed digital media, music, and bicycles — all things Bushwick residents love. We’re also quite fond of the song that shares the play’s title.

One of the stand-outs of Pass Kontrol are their bluesy vocals, so it’s with a bit of irony that we’re featuring their instrumental song. But there’s something so nice about the way the plucky keyboards mesh with the crunch of guitars under the verses. The same guitar line that bops so energeticly at the songs’ opening hits a subtle tempo change near the end and rolls out on a smooth groove. There’s something to love in a song that grabs you from the first and then lets you down gently.
