Tonight’s show, which is part of the River to River Festival, is a heavy double-header of epic, arty Rock with a capital “R.” Zola Jesus, dark chanteuse of the Midwest, opens things up at 7 pm, bringing her spectacularly damaged songs and singular voice to a stage that is hopefully not too sunny.
Local headliners Bear in Heaven have been rising through the ranks this past year on the strength of their highly-replayable album “Beast Rest Fourth Mouth.” They describe themselves as “a powerful, functional mix of This Heat, 70s soft rock, early Genesis, and oddly, later Pink Floyd.” An odd description in my book- to me, they are more a swirling mix of synths, krautrock drums, and oddly effected vocals.
Hopefully things don’t get too out of hand for this show, as they have for recent events at Seaport!
