I am not a NY native, and not what I would describe as a hipster. I grew up in Texas and Southern California, and feel most at home in 'Spanish' neighborhoods. My neighbors don't speak English, which is fine because I speak Spanish. I like them and their kids, and I've started gardening in the previously empty yard. My 'dark skinned' neighbors love the fresh produce. I don't mind the loud music and kids hanging out in front of their houses in the middle of the night. It's exactly the same as what we did in the suburbs at that age, or have all the transplants forgotten that? I think my point is that this is everyone's neighborhood, and who gives a shit what sort of differences there are.

Blah blah blah...nobody takes a knuckle-dragging, low-life, urban-redneck, inbred, native Brooklyn idiot like you seriously. We all know your modus operandi and patterns of intellectual dishonesty. People on here are too intelligent to fall for your idiocy. Crawl back to your Diehipster circle-jerk instead because I'm sure you'll find more people, that small handful of regular native Brooklyn rejects that write the SAME illiterate daily rants 30X a day 365 days a year, that are on the same low level of mental ability as yourself there.

It's funny how you accuse the author of being racist for using the "token black friend" excuse when it's clear you're using the "I eat Chinese food therefore I'm not racist" excuse. Any intelligent person reading this blog knows you're nothing but a low-life, knuckle-dragging, urban-trailor-trash, Brooklyn nativist.

Seriously, just Google this clown's handle "ParkSlope=YuppieToilet" or even better "parkslopeyuppytoilet" and you'll find HUNDREDS of links to his incessant, idiotic, socially intolerant rants ALL over the internet.

As a Londoner this thread is truly fascinating. We have our own breed of hipsters and they're pretty annoying. But the level of vitriol and humourlessness in evidence here is breathtaking. I had no idea that New Yorkers of all tribes took themselves so seriously.

"For Christ’s sake, these so called 'native Brooklynites' were even spewing their illiterate non-sense and inciting violence against 'hipsters' even on X-mas day."

My Jewish friends usually go out for Chinese food and a movie on Christmas Day. Is that more appropriate, Steve Lame?

Everyone always says hipsters are white, but there are SO MANY asian hipsters. And more and more black hipsters, and have you seen hipsters in mexico city? They take it to a whole new level. I know, we're talking NYC, but my point is that there are hipsters absolutely everywhere. Also, they seriously don't all have trust funds! Especially the ones in bushwick. Yes, the LES/downtown ones may have some family money, or the ones in the fancy condos in williamsburg, but not the majority in williamsburg/bushwick. Also, I hate to break it to you, but just because you're in your 20s and have some money, it doesn't mean you have a trust fund. I know plenty of people with skin-tight ripped jeans, mullets and tattoos that have really well-paying jobs. This debate is just so tiring...

You, dear, are racist.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Arts; studio art, painting drawing, the like, I often shop organic, I attend art events, discuss art, etc.

But I am Bushwick born and raised, I am black and Spanish mixed like most of the Bushwick natives....I'm one of the "darker kids," etc.

You call Bushwick a "shit hole" and you cast "darker" kids in such a negative light. Aside from fast food institutions, did you take into consideration the culture behind this area?! The Spanish restaurants, music, events...or you are racist against Spanish culture, countries, people?! Did you consider not all "darker" kids (the black/Latin) kids that don't fit the "pop music/ghetto) stereotype. I am one of these "darker kids" and I decided to get a degree (a common "hipster" degree) in studio art. I take time to enjoy both the Latin culture of Bushwick and the cultures of the rest of NYC. I don't snub any authentic culture and, in fact, believe I should live in harmony with both the Latino/Latina people of Bushwick and (other cultural) people that move in.

The Spanish should get along with the hipster. The hipster should get along with the Spanish. We should ALL get along, collaborate, and make Bushwick a wonderfull and inclusive place. No one ahould look down on anyone else, no one should stick their nose up at anyone else. If you don't like this move out!

(To Just shut up)

Thank you. Bushwick is NOT a dying neighborhood though. Aside from the crap fast food, there are cultural institutions that been around before "hipsters"; authentic Spanish restaurants, for example, Spanish music playing within the street, etc.. Just because these cultural things fall along the lines of Puerto Rico, Domincan Republic, and other Spanish countries, and not white/hipster culture, doesn't mean its ignorant. If you went to a true Latin country, would you call it decaying? To me Bushwick is a Latin cultural area. Sure I want the organic cupcakes and Starbucks, and I hate fast food institutions, but as someone with some Latin heritage, I respect this "Spanish" district called Bushwick!
