A careless driver fled the scene after sideswiping an SUV on Bushwick Avenue, sending the large vehicle rolling sideways into two parked cars this morning. Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries and there’s an active search for the hit-and-run driver, police officials said.

At 11:15 a.m., three men were driving westbound in a Land Rover Discovery when an eastbound man in a Honda Accord started turning left on DeKalb Ave. and at the last second, changed his mind and swerved in the opposite direction, hitting the front passenger-side tire on the SUV. The impact sent the Land Rover rolling into the side of a parked gypsy cab, which then hit a parked Toyota Corolla.

The man in the Honda took off immediately and the SUV driver, who refused to give his name for legal reasons, said he was so angry that he chased the car on foot.

“When the car stopped sliding sideways, I got right out with one thing on my mind and that was to fuck up the motherfucker that hit me,” the driver said. “For sure, I was going to put my foot in his motherfucking ass.”

Luckily, all three men in the Land Rover were wearing seatbelts. The two passengers, along with the cab driver who was sitting in the car when it was hit, were cut out of the vehicles by firefighters and rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

Pedestrians on Bushwick Ave. were able to write down the Honda’s license plate number and with that, police said they already have the driver’s home address.

Gabriel Gonzalez, a resident of 757 Bushwick Ave., watched the chaos from his apartment window and said the intersection of Bushwick and DeKalb is constantly the site of car crashes.

“In the summer we usually get at least two accidents a month,” Gonzalez said. “People drive on Bushwick Avenue like it’s a highway. People gotta learn to calm down.”
