A Monday morning burglary turned violent when the burglar stabbed a Bushwick man in the forehead with a screwdriver.
The New York Post reports that 36-year-old Joselito Montanez kicked in an apartment door on Himrod Street near Irving Avenue and took a Blackberry from the residence. The tenant, who was home when the burglary occurred, fled next door and retuned with his neighbor to confront Montanez. A scuffle ensued and Montanez stabbed one of the men in the forehead with the screwdriver.
Police told the Post that Montanez was observed knocking on random apartments on Himrod Street the morning of the burglary. DCPI told BushwickBK that Montanez was arrested twice in Bushwick last November for criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance.
The condition of the victim is not yet known but Montanez was quickly arrested in the area near the 83rd Precinct. Police recovered the victim’s Blackberry along with white gloves and the screwdriver used in the attack. Montanez is being charged with assault, burglary, robbery, and criminal possession of robbery tools.
