Officers from the 83rd Precinct used an FDNY cherry picker to haul a suspect off the roof of a two-story home on the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Schaefer Street this afternoon. A neighbor who asked not to be identified said the black male, who appeared to be in his late 20s, had assaulted a woman in the home and climbed onto the roof of the house to evade police.
The neighbor identified the man as “Oscar,” and said he saw the man climb out the window and shimmy his way up to the roof. Police arrested the suspect on the roof without incident, and lowered the handcuffed suspect down to the street by way of an FDNY cherry picker from East New York’s Ladder Company 120.
It is unclear if the woman inside the house called police or if neighbors did, but 15 uniformed and plain-clothed detectives along with the fire truck the arrived at the scene within minutes of each other. The suspect was placed in a marked patrol car and taken to the 83rd Precinct.
