Is it just me or has this week been overwhelming for everyone? Might be time to take a step back, consult a guru, focus, breathe deeply and then go see a ton of art and music.

Tonight

Silent Barn hosts Power AnimalBad TeethDinosaur Feathers & ACLU Benefit (incidentally, that band name trips me up every time — I keep thinking it’s an actual benefit). SB has stuff cooking all weekend. Check out the plans here.

Friday

Celebrate the opening of "a special 15th anniversary, ten-day exhibition of international contemporary art, presenting works by the 40 artists currently in residence" at ISCP! Check out their site - there’s much to see, hear, do, be at.

Check out The Loom’s First Friday event for "deals, art installations and complimentary refreshments."

Dance. Tandem hosts DJs Orion, Thurston Morrissey and Rockers Galore in the back room for Lost in Music.

Saturday

It’s a big day/night at Kings County. It’s bartender Deflon’s bday and they’re celebrating  in style: "Enjoy dancing ladies atop the bar, birthday spankings, 2 different happy hours (4-8 and 1-3) and general birthday debauchery! Go-Go by Weirdee Girl and Lil’ Miss Lixx starts at 9:00!"

Shea Stadium has a "lineup of ass-kickin’ country, punk, Americana, and good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll! There’s 7 bands, in-between-set performances by Spirit Family Reunion, and Duke Street Blog will be on hand to document the craziness for a new web series." Fun!

In the Kingdom DenSecondhand Pinups at 10:30, Great Republic of Rough and Ready at 11:15 and Cal Folger Day at midnight.

Sunday

Ridgewood Residency Program presents: Creative : Zachary Leener & Eric Palgon. Opening Reception w/ special performance by Thank You Rosekind from 2-5 PM.

Tuesday

Check out (yay! they get to stay!) Lumenhouse’s $10 suggested donation Tuesday Vinyasa Yoga class

Rock out with the Sleigh Bells, Cults, Sundelles and "secret guests" at RIDGEWOOD TEMPLE, an "amazing old theater/fantastically creepy masonic lodge." (get tickets @ Record Grouch Records/Old Made Vintage)

Wednesday

It’s the last in Tandem‘s We Heart Wes (Anderson) film series! Go see Fantastic Mr. Fox, have some popcorn, some lovely drinks and enjoy the Bushwick Max Fischer Players. I’ve heard they’re spectacular!

A couple of opportunities

Showpaper is looking for a summer art coordinator/assistant curator. I think that would be a pretty sweet (volunteer, I assume) job. The Showpaper folks I’ve met have been really cool. Submit an informal resume with cover letter email to art@showpaper.org.

Lumenhouse is accepting submissions for a film/video screening during BOS. "Only film makers living in Bushwick are eligible. Submissions with a comedic element are preferred." Email info@lumenhouse.com with questions.

Register for AiB’s Bushwick Open Studios. You missed the deadline to be included in the printed materials, but you can still be listed online. Go on & sign up! I want to see your studio.
