It was a flash in the pan: Phorum “wine bar and cafĂ©” opened last year for a couple months, struggled with their pricing, decor, wine list, and menu, and then closed for a three-month “vacation.” When it reopened, it resembled a sports bar; soon after, hand-scrawled signs announcing $1.50 slices of pizza were taped in the windows. Aside from an after-school crush of kids, the place remained vacant and was rarely seen open past 9pm. Rumor had it that the owners of the space were in negotiations with a Manhattan-based restaurateur to convert the restaurant into a Spanish wine bar with tapas. This weekend, a sign was hung — El Mio Cid, named for the Castilian hero. The fact that it is carved wood seems promising. More info as it comes.
El Mio Cid is now open. We’ll review it soon but in the meantime, check it out and report back.

I am so not excited by this but my god…just be decent enough. Just start at a decent price point (read the room people!). Just do a little marketing so you don’t look like an empty storefront. Just be open for longer than 3 months. If so I’ll swing by and I’ll pimp your place on site like this!
