LQ and I both boarded the train at Morgan Avenue and rode to the end of the line at 8th Avenue together. After I posed my style questionnaire to her, we spent the rest of the trip talking about healing crystals and how much Bushwick has changed.
LQ, Jewelry Designer & Clairvoyant Medium
Her Little Red Riding Hood cape is what first got my attention, but as LQ revealed her layers of knitted colors I realized I got a bit more than I bargained for. Yet after our conversation I couldn’t help but notice that her colorful ensemble brightened up my day.
Where are you going right now?
I’m going to the Landmark Education Forum in Midtown. I’m in the last part of the program and I’m really excited because I’m about to open up a co-op, that will be called One Love, that is a spiritual wellness and creative co-op somewhere in Brooklyn but I’m not sure where yet. I live off the Morgan stop so maybe near there.
This is a pretty bright look, how would you describe it?
My hair was once this color (points to cape), but I’ve toned it down a little. I would definitely describe my style as colorful, comfortable, and people tell me I have a very ’60s style but I think it’s just a mix of all sorts of things.
Do you switch it up everyday?
Well, I wear a different color everyday. I have a totally green outfit underneath here. I’ll wear all purple some days, or all pink other days. I always wear a shawl like this, in the winter at least. In the summertime, I wear a lot of dresses. People have told me, when I wear this outfit obviously, that I look like Little Red Riding Hood — I get that a lot. Some people tell me I could be an ambassador or the president’s wife. My boyfriend is always like, “you look like a weird version of Jackie-O” — so there’s a little bit of that. Then there’s the bohemian ’60s aspect to it, and I also like to draw from the future.
What has influenced you to be so colorful?
I always really dressed kind of crazy, ever since I was able to express myself through my clothing since I was like in in my early ‘tweens, I guess. I get inspiration from all sorts of places like books and shows. A lot of people would describe the way I dress as very theatrical or costume-ish, but this is like my costume, you know?
I studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and I did jewelry metalsmithing there, and I’m also a painter, and a clairvoyant medium, so I serve others in that way. I had a lot of opportunity to study fashion on the side when I was in school and looked at a lot of Medieval- and Victorian-era stuff, so that has always inspired me.
It mostly just comes from me, I’ve just always known what I wanted to wear and I’ve been making my own clothes since I was a teenager. I’ve made dresses for all of my high school friends for all our dances. But I designed for the fashion industry for about 5 years — Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Anthropologie, you name it, I’ve designed for them. But it wasn’t me, because I’m an artist, you know?

—- Jacko-lantern.
It far surpasses that Eurotrash and Gypsie look making the rounds this winter. I miss the heels, boots and skirts woman wore in the 60′s.
