The Brooklyn Paper reports that Greenpoint is nastier than we ever imagined. In addition to the massive mile-wide oil spill beneath the northern neighborhood, the state recently revealed that there is also a big blob of dry-cleaning chemicals underneath a swath of land on our side of the BQE, just across the from the main Greenpoint mess. Greater Bushwick’s biggest spills and contaminated sites are already well-known, but it seems only time — and state testing — will tell the extent of North Brooklyn’s toxic underground stew.
