Between this awful/ ridiculous/ insane snowstorm and the weirdness of Google Buzz, I don’t know what to do with myself this week. The world has gone nuts. I do, however know where I’ll be this weekend (and next, and the following) …
UPDATED for the rest of the week:
It’s the DAY OF THE SHOW, y’all!
Go see Bushwick’s own Pass Kontrol‘s latest creation: New Hope City. A post-apocalyptic play that is "the story of three sketchy dudes and one half-robot/half-dude broadcasting pirate radio, and just trying to get through it all." check out what the NY Post, Brooklyn Rail, The Sky Report and The L Magazine have to say about it and take my word for it — the show is awesome! Thursdays through Sundays for three weekends. Before you go — download their new album for FREE!
Once again this weekend, Silent Barn presents Theater of the Grasshopper presents: Iris Rose’s TV Show. "An examination, from multiple perspectives, of the act of watching television. It comprises 4 short plays, 1 short film and multiple short essays about the playwright’s personal relationship to the tube which serve as connective tissue between the other elements."
Friday, go see art in Morgantown!
Factory Fresh is having an awesome opening. Pufferella (YAY!!!) brings you a show so ridiculously fun you have to check it out. With new fabric creations, rides & amusement everyone is sure to have a good time. Check out the Pufferella video sneak peak by Plaztik Mag. Also be sure to check out Polymetrochromanticism: The Artwork of Josh McCutchen in the backroom.
Third Ward hosts their Second Group Show. "We invited artists from around the world to submit new work for this dynamic and inventive group show. With the help of our judging panel (David Elshout of Antistrot; Rachel Hinde, Founding Director of Re-Title; and Kate McNamara, Curator at P.S.1) work from these twenty-five distinguished artists has been selected for our 2nd Group Show."
Get your Valentine’s celebration going early at Numu Arts Collective‘s F*ck Valentines Day! an open-mic hopelessly devoted to heartbreak and misery. "Come share a piece of writing, a poem, a song, an experimental avant-garde movement piece, tell some jokes, or just weep and scream "WHY?!?! WHY DON"T YOU LOVE ME!?!" Why wallow in your misery alone? Help us flip the collective middle finger at Valentines Day! Original or borrowed pieces welcome! Booze for sale!"
Jah Love and the Valentinians - big music night at Bushwick Music Studios.
Dance it out. Body Actualized Control presents another late night of "synaesthetic dazzlement" at Market Hotel. Featuring: musique technicians JONNY SENDER, DAN SELZER and JEREMY CAMPBELL. "Probiotic and mulled mixers, powdered dancefloor, surprises, the fog, the glow, your love?"
The House of Yes and Refuge present all this stuff: "With the musical stylings of Bmore club pioneer SCOTTIE B; Ghettotek originator the one the only legendary GODFATHER! Fools GOLD champion KINGDOM and Black Label Bike Clubs resident DJ DIRTYFINGERZ. w/ SPECIAL LIVE PERFORMANCES by sultry siren MAGGIE HORN and New Orleans."
Tandem has events both tonight & tomorrow. Check their calendar.
Saturday is dare I say it – relatively quiet.
The usual suspects all have stuff going. See: Tandem, Market Hotel, aforementioned Bushwick Starr and Silent Barn events.
Sunday is of course… Valentine’s Day. Woo. Hoo. Lots of options for all you lovers out there in Bushwick!
Have some drinks of your choosing with the folks at Kings (this is a V Day event I can get behind). "Very special loverman Theo Geelo (the guy you always see in the Alife shirt) will DJ super-saccharine love songs. Kings County will provide lots of cheap red drinks (and normal colored beer), and set you up with a special someone . . . depending on who is in the bar . . . well if nothing else, Aimee will make out with you!" There you go. You’re all set.
Asa Ransom returns to Bk (finally) and is playing with quite a line up including the So So Glos and the Eskalators at Market Hotel. Hott.
Moviehouse is celebrating its three-year anniversary on Valentine’s Day!! "Just for you we challenged our favorite filmmakers, our intrepid staff and even a couple of diehard fans to make us a 3-minute romantic movie that followed 3 simple rules." Go see!
The House of Yes has a whole thing going: "A decadent feast for your eyes and stomach will unravel at your table, satisfying your appetite through every single sense. Fare and festival will be fused seamlessly with the power and stealth prowess of a tiger, as visceral and universal as the blood red in all of us and ending with a bang to usher in happiness, wealth and longevity." Tickets online.
Tuesday there’s another installment of Bushwick Food Coop‘s Movie Nights at Tandem. This week it’s: "The Real Dirt on Farmer John."
