New York was spared last week’s storm — “Snowmageddon” — that dumped inches of snow on DC, but the city could net upwards of 14 inches starting after midnight tonight. Mild temperatures may bring sleet by tomorrow morning as the sun rises but it’s expected to revert to snow by Wednesday afternoon, with sustained winds of 15mph and gusts up to 30mph. In preparation, NYC schools are canceled, and many offices have announced closure as well.

Dept. of Education Chancellor Klein has declared schools closed a day in advance to give parents time to make alternative plans for their children.

“While travel conditions to school in the morning may not be difficult,” said the schools chief in an announcement on the DOE website, “the weather is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal.”

Some Bushwick residents tell BushwickBK they are expected in their offices around Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan until further notice. “Our CEO can’t get to Chicago because of the weather,” says one resident, “but we’re expect in the office.” Another says a phone tree has been set up to let workers know if they should show up to their downtown Brooklyn office.

“I’ll probably just work at home,” says a Ridgewood resident with an office in a Bushwick loft.

Only locals who work at larger companies in Manhattan have reported advance closures, including Verizon and Gap, Inc.
