Little things I am grateful for in January: gorgeous sunny mornings, leaving my office at 5pm in (sort of) day light, red eyes from the Wyckoff Starr, and art openings. There are plenty of them this week and this I’ve listed some Greater Bushwick luminaries who are taking it across the river.
Tonight Take the L train. Ridgewood-based artists and proprietors (among others) of (sadly, website-less) living room gallery Blue Wolf Studios, Max Dunlop and Erik Swanson are in a 4-person show: Realm at Slag Gallery opening tonight in Chelsea.
There’s a full menu of shows at Silent Barn tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday.
Friday, NURTUREart presents an opening reception for Eternal Return, a group show curated by Christine Spangler and Tyler Wriston. The exhibition features Jonathan Brilliant, Cody Trepte, Thomas Lendvai, Reuben Lorch-Miller, Judith Braun, Joy Curtis, and Tara Parsons.
Jason Andrew (proprietor of our newest gallery STOREFRONT) takes it across the river, guest curating The Wells Street Gallery Revisited: Then and Now at Lesley Heller Workspace.
Bushwick superstar Sharon Van Etten presents a Night of Music at Monkey Town: Flower of Flesh and Blood, Twin Sister, Soft Landings, and Sultan.
Stay up late and get your music fix and probiotic beverages at Market Hotel. "Body Actualized Control brings a new line-up of late night technicians for your Friday night flight. Performances by Mazing Vids, Further Reductions, and SSPS with DJ sets by Porkchop, Ron Morelli, and Steve Summers. Projections, Probiotic Beverages, The Fog, Your Love?"

Bushwick-based art collective Wunderkrafthaus presents an opening reception for their latest creation "Treasures" at DRWR Gallery. At 10pm following the reception there will be the premiere of their new TV pilot, "Wunderkrafthaus" across the street at Gotham City Lounge. "Prepare yourself for a mental explosion that will leave your friends wundering where you’ve been all week! Wunderkrafthaus makes only the finest art you can see. It is romantic for no one!"
The Old Red Schoolhouse on Ellery is home to: "Testing 1, 2, 3… A night of live music and DJ’s playing everything from funk and soul to hip hop and electronic music.
Featuring Dave Powers of Verbal Graffitti, Christopher Complex and Optimus Funk, and much more."
The House of Yes presents: Sky Box Aerial Open Mic. "Aerialists and variety circus performers from far and wide come together to present you with one epic little show. Performers include Aerial Violinist Janice Martin (as seen on America’s Got Talent), former Cirque du Soleil performer Sara Joel’s amazing bubble chair piece, and Graham Skipper of FUCT Comedy Troupe (shield your eyes)."
