It’s been over a year since the Mathews Model Flats, 100-year-old homes in Ridgewood that served as the prototypes for the endless rows of alternating-color brick buildings that make up most of the Queens neighborhood and even significant chunks of Bushwick, were slated for a Council vote on their historic status. Today they have decided to vote to ban all changes to the facades of these buildings, adding, in the words of Greater Ridgewood Restoration Corp. President Paul Kerzner, a “stick” to the Federal and State “carrots,” or tax credits.
