I’m cheating this week, in a way, and only using apartments available in BushwickBK’s own Classifieds system. This doesn’t mean it’s crap — it’s getting to where there are finally a few things to pick through on there. If you’re not familiar with the Classifieds, check it out — it’s free to post not just your room for rent, but your services for hire, stuff you’re selling, and even a missed connection.
$1500 — loft: This place is HUGE, in a proud old Myrtle Avenue commercial building, and has an interesting alcove (the size of some people’s entire apartment) perfect for a bedroom area. Awesome high tin ceilings, angled walls, tons of windows, wood floors, even an elevator and a roof deck. The location is pretty good, too, right on the M train.

$1400 — 2br: Aside from the ugly carpet, which you might get the landlord to pull up for you, this apartment is large and in a great location, especially for the price. The tin ceilings are cool, the bedrooms are bright, and there’s a shared back yard.

$1600 — 2br: Someone spent a lot of money in this building. The counters in the kitchen are not the typical junk granite that usually get tossed into “upscale” Bushwick apartments — it’s good stuff, like the rest of this place. Real wood floors, exposed brick, washer/dryer hookups, and the building has an awesome roof deck. The only drawback is the location, which makes the price a bit steep even at this level of quality, but it is a very short walk to the L train station.

$1595 — 2br: Full disclosure: I know this landlord, and like he says in the ad, he has good references. He’s owned these two adjacent buildings for 30 years, kept them maintained all that time, and recently renovated them. Moving on: these are large apartments with lots of light — sadly not apparent in the single photo on the listing — and everything inside is new but the restored floors. The block is the same distance to the JMZ as the L, and two cafés are opening soon nearby.
