Snapshots from a (Bush)Wicked Halloween

Midget serial killers roamed neighborhood playgrounds this weekend as candy-hungry children swarmed Knickerbocker and partygoers packed grungy loft spaces in search of the best underground masquerades. — Photos by Diego Cupolo

This year’s Halloween was one for the books. Not only did it fall on a Saturday, allowing unbounded misbehavior, but there were so many events and places to go right here in Bushwick that locals didn’t have to leave the neighborhood to enjoy the festivities. From the army of trick-or-treaters on Knickerbocker Avenue to the seemingly endless loft parties near the Morgan Ave. stop, there was plenty of wild activity just screaming to be photographed.
Throughout the weekend, my main observation was the unusually large number of people coming from outside the neighborhood (and even outside the city) in search of underground parties. This can only mean one thing: Bushwick is making a name for itself as a nightlife destination. What the outcome will be, I haven’t a clue. All I know is our neighborhood was recently profiled in Vogue’s Italian edition.
